The 2026 Scuba Diving Season Begins

A new diving season begins.

Every year around this time something starts happening.

The water begins warming up.
Boats start getting back on the schedule.
Dive bags come out of closets.
Regulators get dusted off.

And before long…

We’re back in the water again.

For me, this is always one of my favorite times of year, because it means I get to do something I genuinely love:

Sharing diving with people.

Not just the places.
Not just the trips.

But that moment when something suddenly clicks.

When Diving Clicks

If you’ve ever learned to dive, you probably know exactly what I’m talking about.

At first there’s a little frustration.

Maybe buoyancy feels awkward.
Maybe trim feels strange.
Maybe your brain is juggling a dozen things at once.

You’re thinking about breathing, gauges, your buddy, your fins, your position in the water…

…and it can feel like a lot.

But then something happens.

A bridge gets crossed.

A barrier breaks.

And suddenly you can almost hear that audible click as everything slides into place.

Your breathing slows.
Your body settles into the water.
Your buoyancy stabilizes.

And for the first time, you’re not managing diving anymore.

You’re just diving.

As an instructor, I live for that moment.

You can see it in someone’s eyes underwater.

The tension disappears.
The frustration melts away.

And suddenly there’s that look that says:

“Oh… I get it now.”

That moment never gets old.

The Divers Who Catch the Spark

Over the years, I’ve noticed that most divers fall into one of three groups.

About 5% try diving once.

Maybe it’s a honeymoon.
Maybe it’s a bucket-list experience.

They check the box, tell a great story, and move on.

Nothing wrong with that.

About 80% become vacation divers.

They dive every year or two somewhere warm.

Beautiful reefs.
Clear water.
A boat dive or two.

They enjoy diving, but it’s just one of many hobbies.

And then there are the divers who catch the spark.

Diving stops being something they do and becomes part of who they are.

They start asking questions.

Where else can I dive?
What skills should I work on next?
What’s out there beyond the reef?

Experience builds.

Confidence grows.

And those divers eventually become good divers.

I’d love it if every student became that kind of diver.

But passion doesn’t really work that way.

I can’t create it.

What I can do is help people along the path.

I can help remove obstacles.

I can teach solid techniques.

I can help you understand and manage risk.

And I can help you build the kind of experience that turns certified divers into confident divers.

Where you go from there is up to you.

Here’s to a New Season Underwater

So here’s to the start of another season underwater… and maybe a few chances to keep learning along the way.

New students.
New dives.
New adventures.

And hopefully a lot more of those moments where everything suddenly clicks.

See you underwater.
