DWF Spent Memorial Day Weekend Making Scuba Memories

DWF (along with my awesome Divemaster Mary) spent this weekend welcoming three new PADI Open Water Scuba Divers into the fold!  This was one of those weekends that reminds me exactly why I became a scuba instructor in the first place.

IMG 7926My class of all ladies was incredibly excited to be getting into the water.  Some of my students did their confined water portion in the middle of winter and some finished up their confined water just a week ago.  But they were all totally psyched to be getting into the water and obtaining their Open Water certifications.

After the first dive everybody had a smile on their faces and all they could talk about was getting back into the water.  Now those are my kind of divers!

Incredibly, we dodged the rain that hammered MD this weekend while we were out at Hyde’s Quarry.  And while air temperatures were in the mid-high 70s, the water was in the high 70s at the surface, with a thermocline at about 12 feet, 50 degree water at 20 feet, and down to 48 degrees at 27 feet.

As a fun surprise one of my students went ahead and grabbed herself a DWF T-Shirt before we made it out for our checkout dives.  Color me flattered 🙂

So let me be the first to congratulate Columbia Scuba‘s newest class of PADI Open Water Scuba Divers!  Your adventure is just beginning.
