PADI Specialty: Underwater Selfie Influencer Diver

Because nothing says “great dive” like a perfect selfie… and a shark in the background.

Somewhere out there, deep in the blue, a diver is perfectly trimmed, perfectly lit, mask sitting just right, hair doing that impossible underwater shampoo-commercial thing, and somehow looking effortlessly cool while taking the most ridiculous underwater selfie you have ever seen.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are out here looking like startled manatees in a snow globe.

And that, my friends, is exactly why it is time to announce the newest, hottest, most absolutely essential specialty in the modern dive world:

Underwater Selfie Influencer Diver

Because if you did not post it… did the dive even happen?

This groundbreaking specialty is designed for divers who want to combine solid dive skills, elite-level posing, suspiciously good angles, and just the right amount of underwater nonsense into one glorious certification path.

We are talking about the full package here.

  • Buoyancy control for beauty
  • Mask placement optimization
  • Hair drift dynamics
  • Underwater camera extension strategy
  • The casual pose that definitely took seventeen attempts
  • Situational awareness, because clout is temporary and reef damage is forever

Students will learn how to hover like a dream, smile through a regulator with their eyes, and avoid looking like they just got caught stealing snacks off the dive boat.

We will also cover advanced topics like:

  • The sacred pre-dive hair flip
  • How to find your money angle underwater
  • What to do when a fish steals the shot
  • How not to kick your buddy in the face while chasing content
  • When to abandon the selfie because, say, a shark is suddenly very interested in your life choices

Open Water Dive One focuses on the awkward phase. This is where students discover that underwater glamour is harder than it looks and that the camera is somehow both cruel and honest.

Open Water Dive Two is the glow-up dive. This is where it all starts to come together. The trim gets better. The pose gets smoother. The photo gets sharper. The confidence rises. The ego becomes unmanageable.

By the end of the course, successful students will be able to:

  • Maintain neutral buoyancy while posing for underwater selfies
  • Capture at least five effortlessly staged photos
  • Demonstrate mastery of the “Oh this? I just drifted here naturally” look
  • Preserve marine life, personal dignity, and buddy safety while creating underwater content

Now, before anybody gets too spicy in the comments, yes, this is obviously ridiculous.

But also… not entirely.

Because buried under all the silliness is some real diver truth. Good underwater photos actually do come from good buoyancy, awareness, patience, and control. The divers who make it look easy usually earned those fins the hard way.

So while this “specialty” may not be showing up in your next official training slate, I am not gonna lie, I would absolutely laugh my head off running a fun version of this as a buoyancy and underwater photo workshop.

And honestly? Some of y’all would sign up before I even finished the briefing.

Let’s do some diving. Let’s get the shot. Let’s try not to become a viral example of what not to do underwater.

Okay fine. April Fool’s.
